What is deferral?

Updated 31/05/2021 12.48 PM

Deferral is accepting an offer of a place into a program, but deferring the commencement of your study. You may apply to defer your studies if:

  • the census date (including the census date for all of your courses) has not yet passed
  • your program allows for deferment.

You can defer most undergraduate programs until Trimester 1 in the next calendar year, to a maximum period of one year.

To check if your program allows for deferment, please check the ‘How to apply’ information for your program in the Degree Finder.

If you would like to apply for time off after census date, you need to apply for a Leave of Absence. Please note: A request for a leave of absence may not be approved.
