How do I get a Tax File Number (TFN)?

Updated 15/08/2022 11.42 AM

You can apply for a Tax File Number (TFN) through the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) or Australia Post.

You should receive your TFN within 28 days after submitting your application and required documents. If you have not received your TFN after 28 days, please contact the ATO

If you apply for a TFN (in order to access a HELP loan) less than a month before the census date, it is recommended that you obtain a 'Certificate of Application for a TFN' from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), or an Australia Post TFN application summary (with the matching barcoded receipt), and submit it to Student Connect by the census date, as proof of your TFN application.

Once you receive your TFN, you will need to supply it to the University. This will enable your fees to be deferred to your HELP loan. Please complete the Notification of TFN form and submit it to Student Connect
